What is Hack Club?
Hack Club is a nonprofit for teenagers who build software and hardware. It supports school clubs, runs an online community and organises project programs and hackathons.
Its approach to learning starts with a project. You try to make something, learn the code you need along the way and ask for help when you get stuck. Beginners can start without prior programming experience.
What membership means for our club
CCSE keeps its own name, meetings and elected leadership at Campion. Hack Club’s clubs network supports existing clubs with workshop materials, a community of other club leaders and resources for running meetings.
For our members, that gives us places to find project ideas and people to learn from beyond our own school. A workshop can provide a starting point for a club project; the wider community can help when nobody in the room has worked with a particular tool before.
Resources you can use
Workshops
The Hack Club workshop collection has self-guided projects, including a first personal website, browser games, music made with code and electronics. You can follow a guide to get something working, then change it to suit your own idea.
The online community
Hack Club’s community is for teens aged 13–18. Its Slack introduction explains how to join and find channels, including #code for programming help, #hardware for hardware questions and #scrapbook for sharing work in progress.
Joining that online community is a separate step from attending CCSE meetings. Use Hack Club’s own sign-up process when you want to take part.
Project programs and events
Hack Club runs “You Ship, We Ship” programs: participants make and submit a project, and qualifying work can earn a reward. It also runs online events and in-person hackathons. The newcomer guide explains how these fit together.
Check the current programs for what is open, the project requirements, eligibility and deadlines. Rewards or funding depend on the individual program and its requirements.
Does Hack Club membership cost anything?
Hack Club is free to join. CCSE’s weekly dues are a local club requirement, separate from joining the Hack Club community. Our election and membership post sets out those dues and members’ rights.
